St. Tropez

Today has been a lazy day. I’m getting over a cold, and I spent all day yesterday in St. Tropez after going out until 3am the night before and getting 4 hours of sleep, so I thought it best to stay in today and try to get better so that I can keep enjoying lovely France.

Wednesday night, Sex and the City: The Movie came out in Aix, so I went with five of the other girls to see it! It was a nice treat after having worked hard on my presentation all afternoon. The movie was so good! It made me miss New York…but there are enough pretty shoes in Aix to keep me going for a while. The only thing that annoyed me was that the girls forgave their guys after they did terrible things to them, and that doesn’t really send the right message. Come on - feminism, anyone?

Thursday was my presentation in French class, which went pretty well. I’m so glad it’s over. We had our first “atelier” (workshop) on the French press, which is once a week. The teacher, Pierre, is pretty cool and funny, and those two hours passed more quickly than 10 minutes pass in class with my language teacher.

On Friday, we watched a really funny movie in class, Tanguy, although we only got to see half of it. I went out with a bunch of people that night, and ended up dancing at a place with extremely cheesy music (reminiscent of Zoo Bar in London) until about 3am, which was really fun! Not so great for my cold though.

Yesterday, I woke up early to make the bus to St. Tropez at 8:30. We were all debating whether or not to go because the weather looked questionable, but I’m so glad we went because it ended up being so gorgeous! There were a bunch of kids on the bus who go to Princeton, which made me happy because they knew or knew of pretty much all of my friends there – a little piece of home, yay. We had a few hours to explore the city of St. Tropez, so after a horrifying experience in a public bathroom, we walked around the harbor, got baguette sandwiches and ate by the water, and walked around the coast and saw the famous cemetery. Then we got back on the bus and ended up somewhere on the outskirts, where George, our guide, took us on a little hike along the hills on the coast and we relaxed on these tiny, private beaches along the sea…and it was sunny and perfect. There were about 10 people on our beach, including the 6 of us who were hanging out together, so it was incredible.

I was supposed to go to Cassis today, but it ended up being pretty gray and dismal outside, so I think I’m going to go after class someday this week. I have yet to start my homework and am procrastinating like crazy (judging by the fact that I am writing this right now while making random iTunes playlists), but I swear, I will do it in 18 minutes.
